2. What is the Impact for Computing at All Saints’

In line with our All Saints' Approach, by the end of Year 6,  pupils will be creative and collaborative in their approach to computing, because they have thrived in an environment which has allowed them to both express and challenge themselves in order to succeed. The computing curriculum provides fun, engaging and meaningful learning for all pupils, in which the children understand not only the content that is taught but the opportunities offered to them by their computing education, enabling them to become creators and change-makers in our digital world, by building their skills year on year, unit by unit.. The impact of our curriculum and the quality of children’s learning is evident in their work, which is celebrated.

The success of the curriculum is assessed via regular formative and summative assessment, lesson observations and skills audits. This informs future adaptions of the scheme of work and help to ensure progression is evident throughout the school. Children are able to evaluate their own work, a vial skill in itself on finding ways, especially when things to not go as planned!

In order to demonstrate that we have accomplished our aims, by the end of Year 6 pupils at All Saints' Primary School will:

  • Be enthusiastic and confident in their approach towards Computing.
  • Present as competent and adaptable ‘Computational Thinkers’ who are able to use identified concepts and approaches in all of their learning.
  • Be able to identify the source of problems and work with perseverance to ‘debug’ them.
  • Create and evaluate their own project work.
  • Have a secure understanding of the positive applications and specific risks associated with a broad range of digital technology.

Through cross-curricular uses of computing in other subjects, teachers are able to revisit misconceptions and knowledge gaps in computing in tandem with other curriculum areas. This supports varied paces of learning and ensures all pupils make strong progress.

Our continuing CPD, based on lesson observations and skills audits, ensures that our teachers are up-to-date and confident providers of high quality computing teaching.
