2. What is the impact of reading in Y2 to Y6?
At All Saints’, our structured approach to reading and comprehension equips children with the skills and confidence they need to become thoughtful, fluent readers. By the end of Key Stage 2, our students are able to access and interpret a wide range of texts, from fiction to non-fiction, and engage with them on a deeper level. This solid grounding in comprehension has a lasting impact on their academic journey, building resilience and adaptability when encountering new material.
Our children will:
- Read with fluency and understanding, enabling them to access all areas of the curriculum.
- Develop a lifelong love of reading, where they read widely, often, and with confidence.
- Make meaningful connections between texts and their own experiences, deepening their understanding.
- Show progress and achieve their best in reading and comprehension tasks throughout their school journey.
- Build the skills needed to interpret questions, consider different viewpoints, and communicate their thoughts clearly.
Reading is at the heart of learning at All Saints’. Our consistent focus on comprehension not only nurtures fluent readers but also provides children with the tools to succeed in all aspects of their education, opening doors to new ideas and opportunities as they grow.
