My World, Your World- Autumn Term 
Where in the World am I?
Year 1 will begin to develop their knowledge about the world and their place in it. They will be introduced to subject-specific vocabulary relating to human and physical geography and begin to use geographical skills to enhance their locational awareness. They will take an exciting adventure into some countries within the seven continents of the world and explore their climate and land features, undertaking a variety of fun activities to help them learn more about each one.
How has air travel changed over time?
The children’s curiosity will be inspired by significant inventions and individuals in the exciting world of air travel. Thinking as historians, they will begin to understand the process of change and historical significance within a chronological framework. The children will make judgements of their own through their understanding of the similarities and differences between ways of life within the different periods.
Educating Britain- Spring Term 
How Can we Map our School?
During this unit, Year 1 will discover the wonderful world of maps! They will begin by using simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of our school, using their senses to build a sense of place. They will be introduced to OS maps and use the 4 cardinal points to plot their main locations, representing them with a key. They will develop their skills by zooming out, plotting the route from our school to All Saints’ Church, measuring distances along the way. Year 1 will demonstrate themselves as compassionate geographers by bringing their knowledge together to consider the best place for a bird house in our school grounds.
What was school like 50, 100 and 150 years ago?
Local Study: The history of our school
Our children will be immersed in methods of historical enquiry, particularly how evidence is used to learn about the past and how oral history plays an important role in uncovering details of our local history and community. Through analysing primary sources and first hand accounts, the children will learn about the rich history of our school and some of the significant events encountered by the children who attended. This unit will culminate in an exciting experience of school life as a Victorian child.
A Royal Affair!- Summer Term 
Where can we find Castles?
Year 1 will find out why castles were built on hills. They will think about the resources the residents of the castles needed to have nearby and how this influenced the location of the castle. They will compare and contrast castles from other places in the world. The children will become familiar with the key stage one geographical physical features vocabulary, which includes: hill, sea, river, and cliff.
How have three queens helped shape Britain?
Set within three contrasting periods of history, the children will discover strong women rulers: Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. Strengthening their chronological understanding, they will compare the recent with the more distant and very distant past. This unit will compare differences between the character of the monarchs, their personal lives and features of life during the three reigns.
Key Information
PE
St. Elizabeth's PE days are Monday and Wednesday.
St. Paul's PE days are Monday and Friday.
Children will need to wear their full All Saints' PE Kit to school on these days. Please be mindful of the weather and choose the most appropriate PE kit (tracksuit bottoms in winter and shorts in summer). Stud earrings and plain watches, if worn, must be removed for all PE lessons and sports activities.
Children wear their house colour T-Shirt for all PE lessons. Round neck coloured t-shirts can be bought from the school uniform shop or can be sourced elsewhere. When purchasing your child’s t-shirt, they should be round necked, completely plain and as close as possible to the shade of colour shown on the school uniform page.
Water Bottles & Snacks
Children must bring a water bottle to school to ensure they keep hydrated throughout the day. Water bottles must be clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Children have the option of bringing a healthy snack to eat at playtime- such as a piece of fruit/vegetables, rice cakes, crackers or a small sandwich. We are a nut free school, so no nuts are allowed to be brought onto the school premises.
Pencil Cases
Children are not to bring their own pencil case into school from home - all equipment your child requires for their learning will be provided by the school.
Home Learning
This will be set on Tapestry on a Friday and must be 'turned in' by the following Friday. Please click the tab on the right-hand side of this page to find out the expectations for Year 1 and for the Tapestry Parent Guide.
Start and the End of the School day.
Our school day starts at 8.45am. This allows the children time to settle and complete their Early Work, ready for their first lesson at 9am. Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time.
At the end of the day, Year 1 will leave via their classrooms at 3:30. Children will remain with the teacher until the appropriate adult comes to collect them.
