An eco-school
We know that the children, staff and families share a real concern for the environment and want to make our lives as green as possible. The Eco-Committee meet each Thursday after school to lead on all things 'green'.
Nine representatives were selected from years 2 to 6 to drive forward the school's target of making our school, our homes and the wider world more environmental. They are listening to the views of their class peers and then will make decisions on such matters as, recycling, reducing waste and improving our School environment.
Here are some of our recent accomplishments:
Reducing Waste
The Eco-Warriors have been given the task to test a new method of sticking paper into books. We hope to reduce the number of ‘Pritt Sticks’ being used by instead using PVA glue sponges. We started to test the sponges with different amounts of glue this month (October)and will report back soon.
School Meals
In previous years the Eco Committee monitored food waste and found that large amounts of food were being thrown away. This year the children have chosen their food options from the menu in the morning and the cooks have based the amounts they cook on these registers. Food wastage has been massively reduced. Well done All Saints’ for doing your bit to reduce food wastage.
Classrooms
Indoor plants naturally purify the air and provide health benefits like fewer cold symptoms and improved well-being. The committee has reached out to school families for indoor plants and we have started to receive plants into the classrooms. We hope to see more plants in all the classrooms soon.
All Saints’ Estate Community Garden
The Eco-Warriors were asked to make a scarecrow for the local community garden. We have been very happy to see our scarecrow in the garden. The scarecrow was named ‘Yoda’ during a Community Garden Day on the 14th September.
